Still Waters

NEWSLETTERS |

Still Waters has grown out of a lengthy discernment process between the Rev’d Linda Chapman and the Rev’d Rebecca Newland about the nature of Christian community in our local and global context and a shared conviction that we needed to find and embrace a new way of being the gathered people of God. Through that conversation, prayer and ongoing reflection, the vision of an intentional contemplative community came to the foreground. This idea was presented to the parish leadership of Moruya Anglican who have encouraged and supported the emergence of this community. The contemplative life of the Church is grounded in its ancient roots. The early Desert Fathers and Mothers went into the wilderness to seek God through silence and contemplative prayer practiced both in community and as solitary’s. We believe that contemplative communities are, and will be, an essential part of the work of renewal of the church and indeed the world. We pray and hope contemplative communities will contribute to peace, justice and the embodiment of God’s love.

Vision
To be a community of Christ totally attentive to seeking God
Intent
To create space for silence and attention in daily practice and communal life
To be an inclusive community of spiritual friendship and formation
To serve others and creation in simplicity and gentle care
and
three core commitments
(that mirror the
ancient monastic vows)
listening,
stability
conversion of heart
As this community continues to take shape there will be more information available on this site regarding
regular meeting times, retreats and on-line meetings.
You can also contact either Rev'd Linda (0422273021) or Rev'd Rebecca (045090089) with any questions or interest.
Let those who can stand a little silence find other people who like silence,
and create silence and peace for one another.”
